I'm having difficulties connecting to the server.  My settings are correct.  What's wrong?

Does your server support Dreamweaver?
Yes. Since Dreamweaver uses FTP functionality to upload and synchronize web files it is natively supported on our servers.

How is Dreamweaver different from FrontPage?
There are several significant ways in which FrontPage differs from Dreamweaver, the largest of which is FrontPage requires extensions (which we place in every site). Dreamweaver does not require any additional extensions. The other primary difference is you cannot edit directly on the server with Dreamweaver. The primary development is done on your computer (or group of computers) and the changes are then exported to the website. With FrontPage you can publish the site to the server and then open it directly on the server to make any changes that you need to make.

If I’m using Dreamweaver, can I delete my FrontPage Extensions?
You can remove them if you wish, although they don’t do any harm if they stay there. The only drawback is if you decide to switch to FrontPage at a later date you need to contact us to reinstall the extensions.

Can I use Dreamweaver and FrontPage at the same time?
Not really. FrontPage requires the extensions that are updated when the site is updated whereas Dreamweaver uses code contained in the html of the file. Changes made in FrontPage will be incomprehensible to Dreamweaver. FrontPage is a great program but it can rewrite your code at its own discretion.

What are my settings for Dreamweaver?
They are the same as they would be for ftp and are sent to you when you first signed up for the domain. 

ftp host = ftp.your-domain.com
host directory = leave blank
login = ****** = the username sent in your welcome e-mail (usually it is your domain name minus the ".com")
password = ******* = the FTP password sent in your welcome e-mail
passive FTP = YES, check this box

What do I put in “host directory?”
Nothing. Leave it blank.

Can I check files in and out from your server?
Yes you can if the property is enabled for the site.

Should I check "passive FTP" or not?
Start out by leaving it unchecked but if you have difficulties connecting to the server try checking it.  This is the one variable that seems to vary from computer to computer.

I'm having difficulties connecting to the server.  My settings are correct.  What's wrong?
Try checking "passive FTP" in the remote site properties dialogue box.
